Jim Rothermel

Jim Rothermel has been an active part of the San Francisco music scene for thirty years. He is an accomplished and talented musician, proficient on soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones, diatonic and chromatic harmonicas, clarinet, recorder and flute. He is equally adept in a variety of musical styles: dixieland, swing and big band jazz; western swing, rock and roll, folk, new age, and classical.

Jim has toured and performed extensively with numerous major artists in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Canada. He is a seasoned studio recording artist with featured performances on more than 75 recordings. He is a skilled arranger and bandleader, and an experienced teacher who enjoys working with individuals and groups of all ages and levels of ability.

San Francisco Examiner critic Phil Elwood calls him "the Bay Area's most versatile and brilliant woodwind performer - among the best instrumentalists in the country, and in the studios".

We are greatly saddened to report the passing of our great friend and band member on May 16 after almost a year battling leukemia. We will all forever be grateful for being able to share the stage with him and his wonderful talent. You can read his obituary here.
