Simple Import Dialog

This dialog allows you to set up how the Address Book will import data from the text data file you have selected. You need to tell the import module which of the Address Book standard fields are present in the import file, and in what order they occur.

Click on the checkboxes next to the list of standard fields in the order they are stored in your import file. If a field is absent from the import file, don't click on the field. A sample line from the file is displayed on the bottom of the dialog to help you in determining to fields and their order on the line. If you make a mistake, click on the Reset button and try again.

There are 3 error correction features built into the Simple Import function:

If you checked more fields than there are on a line, the function will fill whatever fields it can, and just go to the next line.
If you don't check ANY fields, a warning or informational dialog will appear noting that no fields are checked. If you decide to continue, the entire line will be placed into the Notes field.
The module does some minimal checking of the delimiter type you selected against what appears in the file. If you have chosen the wrong file type, a dialog will appear informing you. However, there are a couple of mismatches that may sneak through:
- Delimiter -> comma / File type -> Quoted comma
- Delimiter -> tab / First line of the file has any tabs in it anywhere.

As the Simple Import function reads in data, it reads in a single line from your file and fills the fields of a blank Address Card with the data on that line. When it finishes filling fields or reaches the end of the imported line it adds the Address Card to you Address List and reads in another line. When there are no more lines, the Simple Import Dialog closes and then redisplays and updates the Address List Dialog.
